You want a stone bracelet. But which stone? There are dozens of options — and they all look beautiful in photos. The difference lies in how a stone feels, what it exudes, and how it suits your style. In this guide, we explain what to expect from each stone, so you don't just buy based on looks. Also, check out our complete collection of gemstone bracelets.

Every stone has its own character — the art is choosing one that suits you.

The 7 Most Popular Stones for Bracelets

Below are the stones our customers choose most often. For each stone, we tell you about its color, its durability, and which type of man (or woman) it suits best.

Obsidian
Obsidian Best-selling
Volcanic glass with a deep, matte black appearance. Goes with everything — from a suit to a T-shirt. It's the stone most customers start with because it always looks good. Available in polished (shiny) and matte.

Tiger's Eye
Tiger's Eye Striking
Golden-brown streaks that shift in the light — the so-called cat's eye effect. Tiger's eye stands out without being garish. Popular among men who want a bracelet that gets noticed.

Lava
Lava Stone Rough texture
Porous, light, and rough on the surface. Lava stone is the only stone that absorbs essential oils — so your bracelet can subtly carry your favorite scent. Ideal if you prefer a raw, less polished look.

Lapis Lazuli
Lapis Lazuli Statement
Deep blue with golden pyrite flecks — a stone reserved for kings for centuries. Lapis lazuli is the choice if you want a bracelet that stands out due to color, not size.

Hematite
Hematite Heavy & business-like
Silvery-gray with a metallic sheen and noticeably heavy for its size. Hematite feels like a watch on your wrist. Excellent for business outfits and paired with a steel watch.

Afr. Turquoise
African Turquoise Colorful
Green-blue hues with dark veins — each bead has a different pattern. The stone for those who want color without it being too much. Combines particularly well with obsidian or tiger's eye.

Onyx Classic
Deep black and shiny — the polished counterpart to matte obsidian. Onyx has a subtle sheen that makes it slightly dressier. Often the choice for men who want to wear their first bracelet with a suit.

Comparison: which stone suits which situation

The best stone bracelet isn't the prettiest — it's the stone that matches how you wear it. Below is an overview to help you choose based on style, not just color.

How to choose the right stone

The mistake most people make: choosing based on color alone. You wear a stone bracelet every day. Therefore, it's more important to consider how a stone fits your lifestyle than how it looks in a product photo.

Question 1: Where do you wear it most often?

If your bracelet needs to go to the office daily, choose a stone with a hardness above 6. Obsidian (5–5.5) is popular, but tiger eye (7) and onyx (7) are sturdier for intensive use. Do you work physically? Then lava stone is lighter and more comfortable, but more vulnerable to impacts.

Question 2: Do you wear a watch?

Most men wear their bracelet on the same wrist as their watch, or deliberately on the other wrist. Hematite or obsidian suits a steel watch. For a gold watch, tiger eye works strikingly well due to its warm tone. Read more about types of natural stone bracelets to find the right match.

Question 3: One bracelet or a stack?

One bracelet is sufficient if you want to remain subtle. But if you combine two or three, the possibilities become greater. The rule: combine one dark base (obsidian, onyx) with one stone that adds color (tiger eye, lapis lazuli, African turquoise). Check out our guide to stone jewelry for more inspiration.

You don't choose a stone bracelet based on what's popular. You choose it based on how you want to feel when you wear it.

Stoney Bracelets

6mm or 8mm: which size suits you?

Every Stoney bracelet is available in two bead sizes. The difference is greater than you think — not just visually, but also in wearing comfort and appearance.

Characteristic 6mm 8mm
Appearance Subtle, minimalist Bold, striking
Wearing comfort Lighter, less noticeable Heavier, more present
Best for stacking 3+ bracelets together 1-2 bracelets solo
Wrist size advice Thinner wrists or subtle preference Wider wrists or statement look

In doubt? The 6mm is always a safe choice. Most first-time bracelet buyers choose 6mm — and later order 8mm once they are used to the style.

What to look for in quality

Not every stone bracelet is created equal. Price says something, but not everything. These are the three points you really need to pay attention to.

01
Stone Quality
Real natural stones have color variation — no two beads are identical. If every bead has the exact same color, it's probably dyed or synthetic.
02
Elastic
Cheap bracelets use thin elastic that stretches out after 2-3 months. Stoney uses double-strung elastic with a breaking strength that matches the weight of the stones.
03
Finish
Look at the spacers and the logo element. At Stoney, it's a gunmetal cube with an engraved SB logo — no glued sticker or cheap charm.
04
Consistency
The beads should be uniform in size. Irregular sizes indicate poor selection. We manually select every stone — beads that don't meet our standards are returned.
Our Recommendation

Start with obsidian as your first stone bracelet. Neutral enough for daily wear, distinctive enough to stand out. Want a combination right away? Obsidian + tiger eye is our best-selling stack — and for good reason.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which stone bracelet is best for daily wear?+
Obsidian and onyx are the most versatile stones for daily wear. They match almost any outfit and color combination. Onyx is slightly harder (6.5–7 on the Mohs scale), making it extra suitable if you wear your bracelet intensively.
Can I combine multiple stone bracelets?+
Absolutely. The rule of thumb: combine one dark base stone (obsidian or onyx) with one color accent (tiger eye, lapis lazuli, or African turquoise). For three bracelets, it works best if two stones have the same tone value and one contrasts.
Is a stone bracelet suitable as a gift?+
Yes, and it's one of Stoney's most ordered gifts. Unsure about which stone? Obsidian is always a safe choice. Each bracelet comes in premium gift packaging — ready to give.
How do I care for my stone bracelet?+
Clean your bracelet with a damp microfiber cloth. Avoid chlorine, perfume, and chemical cleaning agents. Store your bracelet dry when not wearing it — a pouch or box prevents scratches between the beads.
What is the difference between obsidian and onyx?+
Obsidian is volcanic glass, lighter in weight, and available in both matte and polished. Onyx is a mineral, slightly heavier, and always shiny. Visually they are very similar, but in hand, you'll feel the difference immediately. Obsidian is a bit more casual, onyx a bit dressier.
