African Turquoise Bracelet

African turquoise is not turquoise. It is a jasper with a green base colour and dark speckling, and that is the first thing to know before you order: don't expect bright blue. What you get is muted green with brown. Far more wearable than real turquoise, and a good deal less delicate.

What's in this collection

African turquoise in 8mm and 6mm is the core. Aqua terra is the bluer side of the same family, sea green with brown and white veining, and currently the better selling of the two. If you want more green without the blue cast, look at the green gemstones. If you're after real blue, that's with the blue bracelets.

For women and for men

Turquoise is one of the few colours that works on both sides without adjustment. For women 6mm is the subtle route, where the green reads as a colour accent. For men 8mm next to a dark stone is the usual choice: the speckling then gives texture to an otherwise even stack.

Care

Wipe the beads now and then with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Avoid cleaning products and prolonged heat, and the colour stays even. This stone asks no more than that.
