Most men who wear a gemstone bracelet for the first time start with the same question: which stone actually suits me? The answer is simpler than you think, but most webshops make it unnecessarily complicated. In our workshop in Rosmalen, we see every day what works and what doesn't. Our men's bracelet collection features all the stones we discuss below.
Start Here: Which Stone Suits Your Style?
You don't need to compare all ten stones. Start with what you already wear or how you look. These are the six patterns we most often see in men choosing their first gemstone bracelet.
Tiger's eye. The gold-brown hues perfectly match gold metal. Our most ordered combination.
Obsidian or hematite. Cool, sleek, without conflict with silver accents. Obsidian glossy, hematite metallic.
Onyx. The most subtle choice. Black, matte, only noticeable if someone really looks. Perfect entry without risk.
Obsidian 8mm. Always good, everywhere. The safest first choice we can recommend. Period.
Eight Stones Compared on What Matters
Not all stones are created equal. Some are harder and more resistant to daily wear. Some are more subtle. Others intentionally stand out. Below, we compare eight natural stones on the core qualities most relevant to men.
| Stone | Color | Hardness | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Obsidian | Black, glossy | 5 – 5.5 | First bracelet, always safe |
| Onyx | Black, matte-elegant | 6.5 – 7 | Office, formal settings |
| Tiger's Eye | Gold-brown, warm | 7 – 7.5 | Gold accents, casual-chic |
| Lapis Lazuli | Deep blue, gold flecks | 5 – 5.5 | Statement, for those who dare to be different |
| Hematite | Silver-metallic | 5.5 – 6.5 | Sleek, modern, tech-style |
| Lava Stone | Black, porous, raw | 6 – 6.5 | Outdoor, tough, oil-option |
| Larvikite | Dark gray, cool sheen | 6 – 6.5 | Minimalist, distinctive |
| Agate | Striped, unique | 6.5 – 7 | Character, no two alike |
If you're in doubt: obsidian. It's the stone no one regrets. Black goes with everything, the shine is subtle enough for the office and tough enough for the weekend. The hardest choice? Tiger's eye and onyx, with a Mohs hardness of 7. They survive years of daily wear without scratches.
Our Five Best-Selling Stones for Men
Of the dozens of stones we process, these five consistently stand out as the strongest choices for men. Not because they are the cheapest, but because they repeatedly prove their worth. Also, check out our guide on tough men's bracelets for more inspiration.
Volcanic glass with a deep, glossy black color. Goes with everything, doesn't demand attention but gets it anyway. The bracelet most men start with. Available in polished (glossy) and matte (more subdued). Choose polished for more radiance, matte for subtlety.
View obsidianGold-brown hues with a characteristic chatoyancy — a shimmer that shifts as you move your wrist. The ideal match for gold watches and warm skin tones. With a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale, it's one of the most durable stones in our assortment.
View tiger's eyeDeep black with a matte to lightly satin finish. The difference with obsidian is in the texture: onyx is less glossy, calmer, more formal. The stone you wear to a job interview or an important meeting without anyone commenting on it — unless they have taste.
View onyxDeep blue with gold-colored pyrite inclusions. This is the stone for the man who deliberately deviates from just black and brown. Lapis stands out, but in an elegant way. Combine with a dark suit or a simple white T-shirt — both work.
View lapis lazuliSolidified magma with a rough, porous texture. No two beads are identical. Lava stone absorbs essential oils, allowing you to apply a drop for a subtle personal scent. The toughest stone in our assortment, popular with men who work or exercise outdoors.

Most men wear a bracelet together with a watch. The basic rule is simple: match the tone of the stone to the metal of your watch. This is what we advise daily.
| Watch | First choice | Alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Gold | Tiger's Eye | Jasper, Agate |
| Silver / Steel | Obsidian | Hematite, Larvikite |
| Black | Onyx | Lava Stone, Matte Obsidian |
| No watch | Lapis Lazuli | Labradorite |

6mm or 8mm: Which Bead Size Do You Choose?
This is one of the most frequently asked questions we receive. The answer depends on the look you want to achieve and the context in which you wear the bracelet.
6mm is more subtle, elegant, less conspicuous. Works well in the office, at formal occasions, or if you want to play it safe. Ideal if you have slender wrists or if you want to combine the bracelet with multiple thin bracelets.
8mm is the standard size and offers more presence. This is what most men choose. Fuller, more powerful, more of a statement. If in doubt: choose 8mm. That's what we ourselves wear in the studio.
"Nine out of ten men who order for the first time choose 8mm. For their second bracelet, they sometimes choose 6mm as well for a layered look."
— Stoney Bracelets studio, RosmalenMaterial Knowledge: What Makes a Good Gemstone Bracelet?
Not every gemstone bracelet is created equal. The difference lies in three things: the quality of the stones, the stringing method, and the finish.
Stone Quality
We hand-select each stone. This means that beads with cracks, blemishes, or uneven coloring are removed. In mass production, these would simply be processed. You see the difference immediately when you place two bracelets side by side.
Elastic and Construction
We use double-strung elastic instead of single. This takes more time but doubles the lifespan. A well-made bracelet lasts five to ten years with normal use. Should the elastic wear out: we offer a repair service.
The SB Cube
Every Stoney Bracelets bracelet features a gunmetal cube with the SB logo. That is our signature element. It tells you that the bracelet is handmade in Rosmalen, with real stones, by people who know what they are doing.
