Red gemstone: types and jewelry

Red is the smallest and at the same time the most outspoken colour family in natural stone. Bright signal red barely exists in stone. What you get in practice is rust brown, brick red and deep red with brown veining, and that's exactly why red stays wearable.

Which red stones we carry

• Red tiger eye: reddish brown with the cat's eye shine of tiger eye, and our best-selling red stone.
• Carnelian: warm orange-red and slightly translucent, the softest of the range.
• Red Sesame Jasper: deep red with fine black speckles, muted rather than bright.
• Red Vintage: matte brick red without shine, calm enough for everyday wear.
• Leopard Skin Jasper: sand-coloured with reddish-brown spots, more earthy than red.
• Brazil Agate: banded in red and brown, each bead with its own pattern.

What we don't carry

Red onyx, garnet and ruby are often mentioned in the same breath as red gemstones, but none of the three is in our range. Came here for red onyx? Red Vintage comes closest in colour and matte finish.

Wearing red

Red asks for a counterweight. Next to hematite or matte obsidian it becomes grown-up rather than loud. Next to gold tiger eye it stays warm, but quickly gets busy: keep it to two bracelets then.

The right size

Most red is 8mm. Red tiger eye also comes in 6mm, for a slimmer wrist. Measure your wrist with a tape measure, add about one and a half centimetres and compare it with the size chart. If you're between two sizes, we exchange free of charge.
