Our Moon Stones are larvikite: a grey natural stone with a silver-blue shimmer that only appears when the light hits it right. At rest the bead looks dark grey and understated. Tilt your wrist and a cool shine runs across it. Understated chic with a secret, as we call it ourselves.
Grey moonstone, and what that means
Larvikite is known in the trade as grey moonstone, and that's how we carry it too. It's not the same stone as the milky white moonstone with a soft white glow: larvikite is darker, greyer, and the shimmer is silver-blue instead of white. Looking for that grey variant? You're in the right place. Looking for the milky white one? We don't carry it. Want to know where the stone comes from and how it compares to labradorite? That's on the larvikite page.
Polished or matte
The polished version shows the shimmer most strongly and is clearest when you hold the bracelet in your hand and tilt it. The matte Moon Stones are the same stone, blasted, which makes the grey velvety and the shine softer. Matte is the more often ordered of the two.
Grey is the easiest colour there is
Grey sits exactly between black and white and therefore clashes with nothing. That makes this stone just as natural in the men's collection in 8mm as in the women's collection in 6mm. Under a shirt it barely stands out; next to a watch it works as a calm break.
What to combine it with
Matte Moon Stones next to lava stone is the combination most often ordered together with us: matte grey against dull black, both without shine. Next to lapis lazuli the grey-blue picks up the deep blue and the whole thing gets cooler. In 6mm it works softly next to pink rhodonite. Ready-made, the Moon Stones are part of several bracelet sets.
The right size
Moon Stones come in 8mm and 6mm. Measure your wrist with a tape measure, add about one and a half centimetres and compare it with the size chart. If you're between two sizes, we exchange free of charge.
What is said about the effects of gemstones is cultural and symbolic, not medicine, and that's how we present it. Handmade in the Netherlands, from real natural stone, since 2019.
