Two sizes, one wrist. The choice between 6mm and 8mm is not a detail. It determines whether your bracelet subtly blends in or adds weight, whether it lies beautifully next to your watch or clashes, whether it quietly disappears under your cuff or stands out as soon as you open your hand. On this page, you'll get the complete answer, built on thousands of wrists we've measured in our studio since 2019. For the wider collection, you can visit our men's bracelets and women's bracelets.
The difference in 30 seconds
You don't need a long explanation to make the right choice. Remember these three rules and you'll be fine in 90 percent of cases.
- 6mm for narrow wrists, layering, and those who want subtle wear.
- 8mm for average to sturdy wrists, and those who want presence without being flashy.
- When in doubt: choose 8mm for men, 6mm for women. This is what our customers choose in 80 percent of cases.
6mm is a whisper on your wrist, 8mm is a presence. Both are premium, both handmade. The choice is about how you want to be felt.
6mm: for whom and when
The 6mm bead is the more subtle choice. It weighs less, lies flatter against the wrist, and is less noticeable from a distance. That might sound like a disadvantage, but it's not. It makes it ideal for those who wear their bracelet every day without wanting to think about it.
Three typical wearers:
- Men with a wrist circumference under 17 cm where 8mm feels too dominant.
- Anyone who wants to stack multiple bracelets simultaneously without the stack becoming too wide.
- Those who want to hide their bracelet under a shirt or watch strap.
The 6mm also feels more comfortable if you type a lot or often slide your cuff over your wrist. It stays within the natural contour of your arm instead of protruding.
8mm: for whom and when
The 8mm is our bestseller. Eight out of ten men buying a natural stone bracelet for the first time choose this size. Not by coincidence. The extra two millimeters give the bracelet weight on the wrist, a kind of silent presence that you feel as soon as you put it on and that you miss every time it's not there.
Three typical wearers:
- Men with a wrist circumference of 17 to 20 cm where the bracelet looks proportionate.
- Those who really want to see the natural stone — color, vein, irregularity.
- Anyone who wants to pair their bracelet with a sporty or robust watch.
The 8mm also allows the stone to truly shine. On a blue tiger's eye or a lapis lazuli vein, two millimeters make the difference between a hint and a statement.
Wrist circumference: which bead fits best
Wrist circumference determines a lot. We have literally measured thousands of wrists since 2019, and these are the patterns that consistently emerge. Measure your wrist circumference by loosely placing a tape measure around your wrist at its narrowest point, just below the wrist bone. No tape measure? A string and a ruler work just as well.
| Wrist circumference | Recommended size | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 14 — 16 cm | 6mm | 8mm overpowers the wrist. 6mm stays in proportion and is more comfortable for daily wear. |
| 16 — 17 cm | 6mm or 8mm | Grey area. 6mm for subtle, 8mm if you want to feel some weight. Both work. |
| 17 — 19 cm | 8mm | The average male wrist. 8mm provides the right proportion and doesn't disappear. |
| 19 — 21 cm | 8mm | On sturdier wrists, 6mm looks undersized. 8mm fills the wrist without feeling heavy. |
| 21 cm and larger | 8mm or double 8mm stack | One 8mm bracelet can feel alone. Two to three together fill the wrist better. |
With your watch: which bead works
A watch dictates a lot. It occupies visual space, it has its own weight, and it's often exactly where you want to wear your bracelet. The rule of thumb: the bracelet should complement the watch, not compete with it.
| Watch type | Best bead size | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Dress watch (case height up to 8 mm) | 6mm | A thin dress watch cannot accommodate a wide bracelet next to it. 6mm respects the proportion. |
| Field watch / daily (8 — 11 mm) | 6mm or 8mm | Both work. 8mm for a more robust effect, 6mm for refinement. |
| Sport / diver (12 mm and larger) | 8mm | A thick case requires weight next to it. 6mm disappears, 8mm matches visually. |
| Smartwatch | 8mm | The rectangular case looks different from a round one. 8mm balances the visual weight. |
Tip from the studio: wear the watch and bracelet on the same wrist, with the watch against your wrist bone and the bracelet next to it towards your elbow. Not the other way around. Otherwise, you'll have a bracelet that slips under the watch strap.
Combining: 6mm and 8mm in one stack
You don't have to choose just one size. The most interesting stacks we create are mixtures. A thin 6mm next to a sturdy 8mm provides a visual rhythm that a single size cannot achieve. The eye gets something to follow, instead of a uniform row.
Three combinations most frequently ordered in our studio:
- 8mm tiger's eye + 6mm hematite — warm gold next to cool silver, classic masculine palette.
- 8mm matte obsidian + 6mm lava + 6mm gold tigereye — the best-selling stack of 2025.
- 8mm lapis lazuli + 6mm onyx — deep blue with deep black, for those who want subtlety but not invisibility.
Rule of thumb for stacking: at least one 8mm as an anchor, with 6mm around it for texture. The reverse rarely works. Three 6mm together looks thin, one 8mm with two 6mm looks balanced.
Three scenarios if you're in doubt
The general rules are not absolute. Here are three common situations where the logical choice isn't always the right one.
Wrist circumference 16 cm and you want something that stands out. Logic says 6mm, but if you want it as a statement piece: choose 8mm. It looks substantial, that's the idea.
Wrist circumference 19 cm and you work in a formal setting. Logic says 8mm. But if you want to wear it under a cuff without it peeking out: 6mm. Disappears more neatly.
You don't know the wrist circumference and want to give a gift. For a man over 1.75 m: 8mm. For a woman or younger person: 6mm. This guess is correct in 80 percent of cases.
Lots of movement, climbing, sports. 6mm is more comfortable and stays within the wrist contour. 8mm is more likely to hit surfaces and might snag, but 6mm wears out less quickly.
"You only feel the right size when you put it on. That's why we offer a 30-day reflection period — if it doesn't suit you, we'll exchange it no questions asked."
